J.L Rodriguez :“The Alpha 4 K and 18 K we had the opportunity to test on "Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona" gave us some good surprises.
In this film, we shot at an extremely rapid pace because we had tochange sets very frequently; three to five times per day. We had to have a “pre-light” team and a principal one. We worked very quickly.

The Alpha 18kw saved us valuable time thanks to its weightand compact and its incredible versatility. With a conventional 18kw four electricians are required to put the unit on a stand withthe alpha 18 kW, two electricians are sufficient.
We also apprecia-ted 16 mm spigots on the sides of the yoke. They are very useful to set flags and frames and they also facilitate the moving around.

The compactness of the alphas is a real asset in trucks and on sets. The 4 KW reduced size allows the use in small interiors. Without the Fresnel lens the spread is amazing, around 160° with a very even field and a single sharp shadow. The ability to work both 18K and 4K pointing straight down is a major asset in modern days where we are requested to work faster and never say: "this is not possible”."
