EDUARDO SERRA
Director of Photograhy A.F.C, A.S.C.

Eduardo Serra is probably one of the most fascinating cinematographers in the world. He can work with the same talent on French films with directors such as Claude Chabrol and Patrice Leconte with whom he established a durable relationship and on international productions such as M. Night Shyamalan’s “Unbreakable”, Peter Webber’s “Girl with a pearl earring” (for which he won many awards).

Last year when we did a presentation at the Portuguese Association of Cinematographers (A.I.P.), he sent a kind note to all the association members to introduce K5600 products:

“K5600 has manufactured original lights that suit perfectly the needs to work with indirect lighting.
The Lights are smaller and at the same time they have a wider and more uniform beam that the standard lights on the market. They are ideal to work in small rooms. Another advantage of the K5600 lights is that they can be used both as Fresnel and Par, even pointing straight down.
I have been using the Black-Jacks for a long time due to their versatility. By now, they are all (Alpha 4 and 18K and Joker Bug 200,400 and 800) on my list”.

In 2007 he collaborated for the second time with Edward Zwick. After “Blood Diamond” they reunited for “Defiance” the world war II movie starring Daniel Craig.

Eduardo explains: “This is a film on which we used very few lights. I used mainly K5600 lights for  their very wide spread that I used bouncing or through large diffusion I the axis of the camera. My Gaffer and his team (the Atanassian brothers) appreciated the small size and weight of the units in the difficult condition of the thick slopped of the Lithuanian forest.”

Eduardo is currently shooting the two last episodes of the Harry Potter saga which is scheduled to end principal photography in June 2010.
